The prolific Indian batter, Suryakumar Yadav, has been on the rise since his introduction in International cricket. He has been phenomenal in T20 cricket for Team India. His unique shot ranges and ability to place the ball in the gaps is rarely seen in modern day cricket. Yadav has the skill to beat the bowler and use his strengths to his own advantage.
T20 heroics of the Mumbai-born have gotten him a spot in the ODI and Test squad for the upcoming series against New Zealand and Australia. But he hasn’t been able to make a big score in ODI cricket till now even after getting regular opportunities in the format.
The Indian cricket legend, Kapil Dev, said that he failed to understand the call taken by the team management to drop Suryakumar Yadav from the ODI squad. He felt that Sky is a match winner and can win you games with the quality of shots he has in his skill set.
While talking with the Gulf News, the World Cup winning captain said, “Having said that, they should have one set of teams for a period of time. You can change an odd person. I can understand that. But if your Man of the Match (Suryakumar Yadav) is getting dropped the next day and somebody else comes in, we as cricketers don’t understand that.”
Kapil Dev had a kind of varied view in comparison to other cricket pundits and experts. He believed that there should be three different teams for all the three formats as it would give chances to a lot more players.
The legendary skipper added, “I think we should leave it to the cricket board what they (selectors) plan. There are so many cricketers coming so everyone should get a chance to play. From what I can see from the outside is that they will have three teams – one each for T20Is, ODIs and Tests. That way, you can have a bigger pool”.
Team India are set to play 17 more ODIs along with the Asia Cup before heading into the ODI World Cup in October. This would be a great chance to test out all your players and formalize a proper squad full of talent and experience.
